The Alexander Technique can be applied to any activity. It helps us
(1) to become aware of habits that limit our potential and
(2) to prevent these habits.
I teach in the water with the pupil. My aim is to help people to experience floating and swimming with less misplaced effort and a greater sense of buoyancy and ease of movement.
The Alexander Technique is useful for all abilities from aquaphobic to competitive swimmer. It provides a simple and subtle way to prevent many problems and to enhance efficiency and enjoyment in the water.
I teach in a warm (35 degrees), private pool which is ideal for taking the time and space needed to experience the water in a new way.
I recommend a course of Alexander lessons to be taken in the teaching room as well as in the pool to better understand the principles that govern our balance, movement and performance.
